Catching up...

So the last few weeks have been very busy.  Hardly a spare date in the diary - we've crammed lots in! Family, friends, travel, celebration, decorating as well as preparation for our new arrival.

I feel my biggest achievement of the last few weeks was attending my own baby shower...Let me explain...

A baby shower was never something I thought of when I was pregnant with Ella until it was time for me to leave work and my colleagues very kindly organised one for me - Christmas afternoon tea at a local hotel.  It was lovely... so I believe.  I missed out due to being in labour (37 weeks to the day).  The midwife who triaged me at the hospital when I arrived with contractions 3 mins apart and in quite a lot of pain commented that she thought (this being my first) that I would make it to my baby shower... then my waters broke (narrowly missing her shoes). I was already 5 cm dilated and Ella was born 3 hours later.

So, having missed out last time, I organised an afternoon of tea and cake, but planned it early enough that I wasn't risking missing it again. And my lovely friends bought me wonderful gifts, had raided my mum's photo albums for pictures of me as a baby and put together some great games (Big thanks and a special mention to Lynne and Suzanne xx).  Having Ella there was very special too. The tea, cake and company was excellent.
Thank you to everyone who came xx

Amusingly, Ella won this!

We've had major upheaval at home due to decorating our living room and dining room.  The transformation has been worth it and it's been a rewarding process as we've done everything ourselves (apart from the plastering and windows).  Ella's coped well with the upheaval and is enjoying having the downstairs space back again.

Before...

During...

After... Still a work in progress but we're getting there...

Ella is now confidently walking, has a new found love of dancing and her fierce independent streak is becoming ever more apparent.  However, independence alongside her lacking sense of danger makes for quite a few tantrums - top of the list at the moment is her refusing to hold our hands when walking outside...Trying to get her to wear her backpack/reins is also a battle of wills!

This was accompanied by lots of head shaking and 'no,no,no's'!

We had a lovely trip to the Lakes to visit Ian's Uncle and Aunt and managed to find a small amount of snow on a hill for Ella to have her first taste of sledging...

Not sure she was too impressed or sure!... She enjoyed the rest of the walk though and amazingly for her kept her hat on (knitted by Granny) the whole time...

Ella has also had her first educational psychologist assessment and we were pleased to hear that she's performing well in all areas of her development.  We've had a dilemma as whether to leave her in the mainstream nursery she's at now or to move her in September to the local resourced nursery that caters for children with additional needs.  It's a decision I've been reluctant to make as I love the nursery she's at now and know they have been wonderful with Ella.  Following the assessment, her additional needs compared to other children her age are currently minimal with just some 1:1 time working on speech and language recommended.  The educational psychologist was very positive about the nursery setting and has helped us to make the decision to keep Ella where she is for now and possibly move her for her pre-school year.

Other things we've been up to include.... Playdate with Ella's fiends Daniel & Rosie at the local soft play centre...

Lots of play and exploration...

Plenty of cheekiness!...

More of that independent streak...
And a day trip to London (more on that very soon)...

Have a lovely week everyone xx

  2. Thank you - will keep you posted on the new arrival. We're making the soft play date a regular thing as it's so hard to get to see all our friends as weeks just get so busy! I'm hoping Karen and I can re-instate our coffee and cake time with Rosie, Ella and the new baby now I'm on mat leave again... Having all this time seems like I can take things easy (which I can for now) but it'll all be different in a few weeks! Love to you and yours and hope Natty is better. Looking forward to finding out about Friday - hope it goes well! xx
